Let’s Go to Camp: School House Craft Blogger’s Summer Camp!

Hello friends! It has been a very busy few months for me, with a lot of new happenings to report, but first up, School House Craft!  I had previously interned for them at the end of Summer in 2011 and recently became involved again this year.

First, a little background info: School House Craft (SHC) is an AWESOME resource for small business entrepreneurs and crafty creators of all kinds.  Every time around I leave feeling super inspired and energized by everyone I meet and all of the wonderful information I learn. The organization is lead by Andrea Porter and Marlo Miyashiro, two very knowledgeable and awesome ladies!

Just a couple weeks ago, they held their first ever Blogger’s Summer Camp. A one day conference focused on blogging featuring two panels of super awesome and experienced bloggers. I helped ahead of time spreading the word about the conference, and brainstorming/creating decorations for the “camp”.  Helping with this part was a lot of fun for me! I love themed events/parties and decorating for them, so this was a real treat.

The conference was held at the Mount Baker Community Club, a wonderful venue tucked away in the South Seattle neighborhood of Mount Baker.  The building itself was established in 1909 and has been maintained beautifully since.  Flooded with natural light from large windows and natural wood floors- the club house really helped carry the camp theme charm!

On the day of the conference following setup, I was snapping pictures and live-tweeting the event. (I love tweeting!) It was so much fun seeing the attendees positive reactions to the decorations and space, and also hearing their feedback in live time via twitter. Did I also mention that Marlo made the best s’mores dessert, ever?! So yummy and such perfect sweet for camp!

Overall the day was awesome! At the end of the event, I was inspired and excited to kick start my blog again.  I’m also very much looking forward to their upcoming annual conference in September!

Check out the wrap up posted on the SHC blog featuring some of my tweets and photos.

I also highly recommend checking out the speaker blogs:

Until next time! XO – M

Creating Imagination.

“Imagination is the beginning of creation. You imagine what you desire, you will what you imagine and at last you create what you will.” – George Bernard Shaw

Happy New Year, everyone! During 2012, I focused a lot of time on developing myself and creating more art.  While I have mostly only shared my photography and experiences up to now, art has played a huge role in my life and I realized there is no better place (or time) than here (and now) to start sharing it.

Looking back, I have been creating things for as long as I can remember.  From my Aunt giving me my first camera and teaching me how to use a sewing machine, to my Nana teaching me embroidery and giving me my first Sculpey clay set.  I’ve spent a lot of time trying out different things and I love experimenting with new crafts, but my love for photography and sculpey clay has always come back to the forefront.

I’ll be honest, I had a pretty difficult time narrowing down my interests and really deciding what direction I wanted to go in with my art. Over the past couple years I have spent a lot of time experimenting with different crafts, mediums and projects, connecting with other artists/crafters and volunteering for different craft shows.  After those experiences and also receiving some great advice and encouragement from EtsyRAIN group members, I finally feel like I know what direction I am moving in and am excited to get to it.

That being said, I am currently in process of opening my own Etsy shop to share my creations with the world, but in the meantime I would like to share with you some fun little characters I recently created.  What I enjoy most about creating these characters, is bringing out imagination.  I cannot help but think of amazing adventures and stories for these little guys when I look at them and my goal is to share that excitement with others.

What adventures can you think of? I would love to hear your stories and ideas!

Until next time, XO
-Michaela
